THROUGH CULTURE TO WORK – Free Workshops / Training, December 2018 – November 2019

"Through culture to work"

We invite migrants from Africa, Asia and South America who would like through trainings / workshops to enhance their skills so as to make it easier to enter the labor market, the starting point being their own culture

FREE WORKSHOPS / TRAINING Culinary Workshops We will visit culinary workshops in Slovenia to get an idea of how they are conducted. Then we will design workshops which take into account lessons learned from visits and integrate elements of your culture (traditional dishes, games, storytelling,  pottery ...). You are free to conduct these workshops on your own for payment in the future.

Mentors are from Zavod Global (Institute for Global Learning)

Creativity through craft work Traditional knowledge of craft techniques and skills that you have brought with you from your country of origin (Eritrea, Syria, Iraq, Congo ...) such as sewing, tailoring, weaving, embroidery, knitting, crocheting and jewellery will be researched, refined, and further developed into cultural products (e.g. traditional costumes, ornaments, wallets, pillows, scarves, handbags ...), and offered to the market.

Mentor: Irena Zajc and representatives of the Odnos Association.

Arab folklore dance tradition We will learn about musical and dance diversity and learn the basic steps of the traditional group dance "dabke", how to do choreographies and how to transmit the gained knowledge. We rehearse and master a group stage with traditional Arabic music and in attractive traditional costumes. We will also perform at various events, hence demonstrating our skills

Mentor: Wasim Alkhatib

African dances and music Workshops are intended for anyone with at least basic knowledge in the field of dance and music, who are willing to develop or enhance their artistic expression. We will learn to artistically co-create as a group and acquire stage performance. We will also present the acquired skills at various events within the project, which will enable you to start your own independent career path.

Mentor: Maša Kagao Knez, dancer, dance instructor and choreographer

Marketing In the course of training, we will learn in practical terms how to successfully market all the shaped products that we have developed. The training is expected to take place in the second half of 2019.
